Free XMPP/Jabber instant messaging service

Privacy & Legal Notice

XMPP.SG is operated by Sing Chat. Enquiries, abuse reports and legal correspondence: see the contact page.

XMPP.SG is a free public XMPP (Jabber) service. This page describes what the service collects, how long it keeps it, and the rules for using it.

Where the service runs

Server locationStockholm, Sweden
JurisdictionSwedish and EU law apply
Transport securityTLS 1.2 or newer required; plaintext connections are refused
PasswordsNever stored in the clear

The .sg domain reflects the project's original name only. The server and its data are in Sweden.

What we collect and keep

  • An account needs a username and a password. An email address is optional and is used only for password recovery.
  • Server-side message archives (XEP-0313 MAM) are pruned automatically after 14 days.
  • Files shared through HTTP Upload are stored so your contacts can fetch them, and are removed on the same schedule.
  • Operational records — connection and error logs, anti-spam and abuse data — are kept only as long as needed to run and defend the service.
  • We do not sell, rent or share user data, and the service carries no advertising.

What we cannot read

If you enable OMEMO or OTR in your client, message contents are encrypted end to end between you and the person you are talking to. The server cannot decrypt them. We recommend turning it on and leaving it on — it is the only protection that does not depend on trusting the operator.

Legal requests

We comply with valid legal orders that apply to us under Swedish law. We can only provide what is actually held at that time, which is why retention is kept short.

Rules

  • Do not use the service for illegal purposes.
  • Do not send spam or harass other users.
  • Do not disrupt the server with excessive traffic or connection flooding.

Accounts and IP addresses that break these rules are blocked. Accounts unused for 12 months, and accounts registered but never logged into after 7 days, may be removed.
